AMITE--Here are my previews for Tangilena high schools this week:
Ponchatoula @ East Jefferson – the Green Wave picked up a big win over Amite despite being minus – 5 in the turnover ratio. EJ got a big win over Independence.
St. Michael @ St. Thomas – The Falcons have as tough as a non district schedule as anyone around these parts. STA will have a tough time stopping a very good passing attack that St. Michael’s has.
Independence @ West Feliciana – The Tigers hung tough but gave up a lot of points late in their 43-15 loss to EJ last week. West Feliciana is a talented team that is picked to come in 2nd behind power Parkview in the Baton Rouge 3A district. This would be a quality win for the Tigers.
St. Helena @ Kentwood – The Roos will look to get off to a better start this week after falling behind 17-0 last week to Sumner. The Roos were able to pull out a win. Speaking of pulling out a win, how about the Hawks of St. Helena? The Hawks also came back in their big win over St. Fredrick. St. Helena can’t afford to make any mistakes if they plan on hanging with the Roos.
Pearl River @ Loranger – The Wolves should be ok here after a four quarter brawl last week in their big road win over U-High. Will the Wolves be looking ahead to next week’s showdown with the Roos of Kentwood? Mmmm!
Amite @ Hammond – The Warriors have to put last week’s game behind them as they let one get away in their narrow loss to the Green Wave. Hammond is not that good. Boy, have the Tors fallen over the years!
Oak Forest @ Centreville – Simply put, the Tigers are the class of the district and Oak Forest must protect the football, play well in special teams and get a few short fields to work with. These Tigers are very good and to just hang around and have a shot in the fourth quarter is something that would be great if OFA could do.
Mandeville @ Sumner – The Cowboys need a quality win and this would be a huge one if they can beat the 5A Skippers. Mandeville is coming off a loss to Catholic High and they are in need of a win. This should be a very competitive game at the “hole” in Tangipahoa.
