Aug. 15, 2001 - The groundbreaking took place for the new Tangiphahoa Parish School Board Central office. Desiree Magee received a bachelor's degree from the University of Southwest Miss. Community College. Clifton Speed, an OFA student, placed first in American History at the ABC District Rally in Natchez, MS.

August 14, 1991 - Laura Reid attended the third of five orientation conferences at the University of Mississippi. Donald Hart received the Falcon Award at Exxon, Baton Rouge. P. J. Franklin led the Kenner Eagles in the Y.B.O.A. National Tournament Title in Orlando, Fla. He was the team's leading scorer and received MVP. Gretchen Brumfield, AHS Wa-Hoop Captain, received Miss Congeniality and Most Outstanding Overall Dancer at summer dance camp and the Spirit Baton Winner went to Shelby Cutrer. At OFA's Jackette Dance Camp Faith, Payne got the Most Improved Award.

August 15, 1973 - The Village Wearhouse located in the Old Sanders Building is now open for business. Carpet Town has heavy duty carpet for $3.95 a yard. Donna Jane Kent is the new OFA Jackette Director. Sam Ball's Dept. Store is having a sale with Jr. Miss Wing-Toe Oxfords for $7.45. Charles Bennett completed US Air Force basic training. He is a 1973 graduate of Oak Forest.

August 13, 1969 - Dollar General held their grand opening. They are located in the former Amite Theatre Building. Ardillo's Grocery held their grand opening. Glen Allen's had Safeguard soap 3 bars for 49 cents. Herbert C. Freiler, Sheila J. Massey received degrees from LSU. Dr. Doolittle was playing at the Mitchell Drive-In.

August 14, 1959 - Attorney Barbee Ponder won the sub-senior World's Skeet Championship. Felix Baham enlisted in the US Navy as a Seaman Recruit. He is a 1959 graduate of Loranger High School. Tommy Smith won top honors in the 4-H Short Course Tractor Driving Contest. Rio Bravo with John Wayne is playing at the Skaggs Drive-In. Here Comes Gidget with Sandra Dee is playing at The Amite Theatre. McLaurin's Shopping Center has Luzianne Coffee for 44 cents a lb.
