Regular Meeting

The Mayor -Council met on June 9, 2011 at the City Hall in Roseland, La. for regular session.

Call to Order: Mayor Wanda McCoy called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.m

Roll Call: Council members present were: Jerrol Jones, Ruthie Vernon, and Sandra Turner.

Absent were Van Showers and Yvette Brooks.

Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Mayor Pro-Tem Sandra Turner led the public meeting with prayer and Councilwoman Ruthie Vernon led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Public Input: No public input.

Approve minutes of meeting: After review, Mayor McCoy asked for a motion to approve the minutes for the regular meeting held on May 2, 2011. A motion was made by Ruthie Vernon, seconded by Jerrol Jones to approve the minutes for the regular meeting held on May 12, 2011, with necessary corrections if needed. Votes for: Turner: Motion passed.

Approve Accounts Payable: After review and discussion, Mayor McCoy asked for a motion to approve the accounts payable for June 2011. A motion was made by Sandra Turner, seconded by Ruthie Vernon to approve the accounts payable for June 2011. Votes for: Jones. Motion passed.

Appoint Official Journal: Mayor McCoy asked for a motion to appoint the "Amite Tangi Digest" as the Town of Roseland's Official Journal for a one year term, ending June 2012. A motion was made by Sandra Turner, seconded by Ruthie Vernon to appoint the "Amite Tangi Digest" as the town's Official Journal. Votes: Motion passed.

Fire Department: Fire Chief John Pritchett, Jr. came before the Mayor and Board of Aldermen to announce the classification improvement for the Town of Roseland. Fire Chief stated that the Public Protection Classification of the Town of Roseland has changed from Class 5 to Class 4 for residential and commercial properties. Fire Chief stated the new Classification may result in decreased fire insurance rates. Fire Chief stated this achievement has been accomplished due to improvements. Fire Chief stated he has nine active members and hold their Fire Meetings on Monday night.

Ms. Eunice Harris: Ms. Eunice Harris, Customer Service Specialist with Entergy, came before the Town of Roseland to give a brief presentation on "Hurricane Preparedness". Ms. Harris stated that Entergy's most important concern is getting their customers Storm Ready. Ms. Eunice reviewed Entergy's four steps of the Tropical Storm Response Process. Ms. Eunice also, talked about how to prepare for power outages and how to prevent power outages.

Community Development: This item was omitted.

Old Business: Mr. Larry Holland, Sr. from Loranger, LA came before the board seeking a solution with the copper theft in Roseland.

New Business: No new business to discuss.

Zoning: Zoning Members were not present for any discussion.

Adjourn: With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Jerrol Jones, seconded by Ruthie Vernon to adjourn the meeting. Votes for: Turner, Motion passed, meeting adjourned.
