MINUTES, REGULAR MEETING
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2012, 6:00 PM
The Mayor- Council met on Thursday, February 09, 2012 at the City Hall in Roseland, La for regular session.
Call to Order: Mayor McCoy called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm.
Roll Call: Council Members present were Jerrol Jones, Van Showers, Ruthie Vernon, and Sandra Turner.
Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance: Councilman Jerrol Jones led the meeting with the prayer and Councilman Van Showers led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Public Input: Pastor Oden asked a question in regards to the curfew for minors. He feels it would be less crime in town if the minors had a curfew. Alderman Jones stated maybe the parents should be responsible for minors to be out after late hours. Mrs. Turner asked the Asst. Chief Anthony Robinson, to contact the Juvenile Office. Mayor McCoy request that the Town of Roseland need to have a neighborhood meeting and hope for unity within the community.
Approve Accounts Payable: Sherri Oliver stated there were not enough funds in Waterworks operation and needs to transfer funds out of General Funds to pay for upcoming payroll.
Mayor stated she’s going to set up appointment with CPA.
Sherri Oliver stated she’s going to work with interim clerks, Janice Holland and Larinda Mearidy on installing software for computers and other
New Business: Bruce Harrell (Auditor) introduced himself to council board. Mr. Bruce Harrell gave a clear vision on what he could contribute to the town He asked mayor does she have a question and mayor replied, “Were glad to have you on board.”
Old Business: Turner- directed a question to Asst Chief about contacting a juvenile official.
Asst Chief said he spoke with someone but hasn’t received any news.
Turner stated: to asst chief to follow up with Mr. Kenneth Harrell.
Showers stated the parents should be reliable for the minors.
Turner: stated she’s going to juvenile officer herself about the problems with the minors.
*No Resolution at this time.
New Business: Shower got a Bid for a Backhoe: he suggested that we get a new Backhoe Dozer. We can get a warranty. 40,000 were set aside for the Backhoe. Mayor and the public stated that it would be wise to lease to own.
Mayor asked Asst. Chief Anthony Robinson for help on how to repair a bridge on Washington Ave.
Mrs. Janice stated she did the necessary procedure about the repairs on roads, bridges, etc... She stated she talked to Mr. Duane (Parish Council for streets) and he said he’ll be getting on it.
Entergy- Eunice stated that Entergy will be given a free workshop along with the IRS for tax preparation on February 18, 2012.
Showers asked about can Roseland receive free energy efficient bulbs given by Entergy.
Mrs. Eunice explained the situation and explained different ways on how to save.
Mayor ask Mrs. Eunice (Entergy representative) if Roseland applied for a grant and she replied, “no” and stated it’s no time frame to apply for the grant.
