His parents, Eloise Daigle and Roy Saxon took the name for their Kentwood picture show here from their names -- Eloise and Roy: ELROY.
Theirs followed the A. O. OTT family’s long time movie theater. Several boys have told how they kept the reels of film turning. Bess Jackman sold the tickets and kept the order and behavior of the patrons proper until you “got out of” the “midnight” show, burning rubber as you backed out of your parking places and “took off!”
For a short time, an Osyka man came down and had a second show across of the south side of Old Main. I don’t recall the names.
But, back to Rocky’s mother, Eloise. She loved words and was active in the Baptist Church.
A poem she wrote was printed in “Mature Living” in December 1985. She would be pleased to have you hear it again, I’m sure. She and a daughter, with others, rest in our Woodland Cemetery.
Today
Today is a brand new gift
I’ve never had before
Neatly wrapped between tomorrow
And the days that are no more
Tomorrow it will lie beside
My other yesterdays
And a new day I trust will dawn
With faith and hope ablaze
And yet the chance it may not come
To realize is hard
Since today is all I’m sure about
I’ll use it for the Lord.
