Judge Morrison sentences 8 from Independence, Tickfaw. Loranger, Ponchatoula

AMITE--District Attorney Scott M. Perrilloux reports that the following individuals appeared in court on August 15, before Judge Robert Morrison and either pleaded guilty or no contest or were found guilty of the following crimes and received the following sentences:

Roy Blanchard, 38, of Loranger, pleaded no contest to Possession of Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substances, and Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substances. He was sentenced to two years with the department of corrections for each offense, to be served concurrently. The sentence was suspended and Blanchard was placed on two years of probation. He must also pay a $350. fine and court costs.

Ronny Sanders, 44, of Pensacola, FL, pleaded no contest to Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substances. He was sentenced to five years with the department of corrections. The sentence was suspended and he was placed on three years of probation. He must also pay a $750. fine and court costs.

Leon Chambers, 23, of Ponchatoula, pleaded no contest to Domestic Abuse Battery. He was sentenced to 45 days in the parish jail. Chambers also pleaded no contest to Aggravated Battery. He was sentenced to three years with the department of corrections. This sentence was suspended and the defendant was placed on three years of probation. He must also pay a $500. fine and court costs.

Jerry Morgan, 34, of Independence, pleaded no contest to Possession of Schedule IV Drugs (2 counts), Possession of Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substances, and Driving While Intoxicated. He was sentenced to two years with the department of corrections for each count of the first two charges and six months in the parish jail for Driving While Intoxicated. All time is to be served concurrently. The sentence was suspended and Morgan was placed on two years of probation. He must also pay a $350. fine and court costs; complete four, eight-hour days of community service, attend the Driver’s Improvement Program and the Victim’s Impact Panel; as well as undergo a substance abuse evaluation.

Joel Alvarez-Martinez, 34, of Tickfaw, pleaded no contest to Second Degree Cruelty to Juveniles, and Simple Battery. He was sentenced to one year with the department of corrections for the first offense, and 90 days in the parish jail for the second.

Milton McClendon, 58, of Tickfaw, pleaded no contest to Driving While Intoxicated (3rd offense). He was sentenced to one year with the department of corrections.

Shane Crawford, 22, of Independence, pleaded no contest to Illegal Carrying of Concealed Weapons. He was sentenced to 90 days in the parish jail.

Robert Phillips, 30, of Independence, pleaded no contest to Possession of Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substances, Possession of Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substances, and Theft under $300. He was sentenced to two years with the department of corrections for the first offense and six months in the parish jail for each additional offense. The sentence was suspended and Phillips was placed on two years of probation. He must also pay a $350. fine, court costs and restitution.
